Pinterest was launched by Paul Sciarra, Evan Sharp, and Ben Silbermannin on March 2010 when text was the dominating force in social media. But now the scene has changed with this image-focused platform. Pinterest has been climbing the social media charts and has become a marketing medium one should not ignore anymore. The average number of minutes users spend on Pinterest per month has gone up to 98 minutes and the average number of website visits generated by 1 pin has reached a significant 6 hits.

Females are the dominant group on Pinterest with 71% female users and 29% male users. Pinners from USA are the biggest majority,  closely followed by India, UK, Brazil and Canada.

The biggest group of Pinterest users are of the 18-29 age bracket with 34%, 30-49 years comprises 28% and 50-64 years make up 27%.
